Star wars resurgent star destroyer
Something that is hard to tell when the 12m long X-wing is zipping over it and the 30m long starfortress is looming over it. So the Mandator IV has a length of 7,669 meters. Iden's words not mine) and give them to the Resistance who have apparently came up against them before according to Poe's reaction to them. In BFII you get the specs to them (And see the FO has enough ships to take over the entire galaxy. Next we have the Mandator IV Siege Dreadnaught. So the FO must have hundreds if not thousands of these ships. A fleet is made up of a number of smaller task forces (such as the one vader has hunting rebels in ESB or the one Thrawn has in his books) which are made up of multiple SD's. Secondly that in the Resistance show it shows around 40 fleets ready to invade the republic. One is that their were thirty of these ships alone at the battle of Crait and they are the supremacies defence fleet. Now while we don't know the true size of the FO army at the moment we know three things about it. Just about everything on this ship is double that of the FO. The Resurgent class has 1,500 weapon emplacements, two starfighter wings (144 fighters), 100 transports, and a crew of 82,000 people.
That is not all that is larger on the Resurgent class. The Resurgent is 2,915m or 182% the length of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, BUT in terms of "percent larger" its 82% larger. Now lets look at the FO's Resurgent class. 35,000 of these ships roamed the space-ways keeping the empire safe. This was the mainline ship of the Empire. The ISD-II is 1,600m in length, has 130 weapon emplacements, carries a single wing (72) of star fighters, has 60 transports, and has a crew of 46,750 people. The ISD-II and the Resurgent Star Destroyer. Its not something that can be done anytime anywhere. They took not only large shipyards but lots of materials, production time, and manpower. Only planets like Kuat, Corellia, Rendalli, Mon Calla, Belbringi, and others that were dedicated to capital ship and large freighter production could even hope to build these ships. At its time of construction the ISD and the ships that would follow were some of the military largest ships in existence. Well it takes a large enough ship yard or planet. So first off lets talk about what it takes to make a capital ship. How large are the First Order ships in comparison to their imperial counterparts. The Dreadnaught that Poe flies over is apparently 7000+m long but its hard to tell any difference from the smaller Resurgent class ships or an ISD.Īnd this is something I want to compare today.
The ST however has not given us as many ideas of the true size of their ships. What had been these huge ships that harrowed our heroes were now little minnows around a shark. Then in ESB we get the scene of the ISD's floating around the Executor. Though we don't have hard numbers we know that the rebels have small ships and the Empire has huge ones. Then a second later we see the front of another ship, one that seems to go on forever and ever before we see its engines.
One of the most memorable scenes in al of cinema is the Tantive IV coming across screen and being this big ship. But even then the distance of that object to or away from the viewer can mess either the perception of size and distance. Its basically impossible to gauge unless the object is next to something of a known size. Size in space is something that is hard to gauge.
